IRD - MAD

Many wild plants have developed the ability to form viable seeds and contain maternal clones over the course of evolution, an intriguing characteristic called apomixis.
The Apomictic Development Mechanisms project (in English, Mechanisms of Apomictic Development or MAD) aims to improve our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in apomixis and thus enable the reprogramming of the sexual reproduction of cultivated plants towards asexual alternatives.
This knowledge should help to overcome the barriers that today deprive breeders and farmers of the benefits of apomixis.

This knowledge should help to unlock the barriers that currently deny breeders and farmers the benefits of apomixis.
